Most of us have known for some time that Universal Hollywood would be closing down Terminator 2 3D in he near future.
Universal has stated that it will be closing the doors on doors on the Cameron/Schwarzenegger show in December after saving man kind for over 16 years. Since the technology of this show has been long surpassed and the future in projects will happen has actually already happened, it is understandable why Universal will choose to close this project. With it’s dated effects, and wear and tear of the attraction itself, it is understandable why this is happening. But why now?
Universal has scored some serious IPs(see Harry Potter, Madagascar, Dr. Seuss, etc) and with these IPs comes huge possibilities. Singapore has recently seen the opening of the new Madagascar ride (care of Super 78), which could make an excellent substitute for T2, or relocating of Shrek with a rebuild of the facade ala Far Far Away Castle.
The rumours are pointing to a Despicable Me ride, move to a similar ride in Orlando, this does seem possible. Only time will tell which way Universal goes, or if they scrap it all and go with a completely different IP. Since the odds of getting my dream (Universal Monsters in 3D) ride anytime in the future, I will hold my breath and see, at least until I get out to Universal again and test out their new latest and greatest attraction… Transformers the Ride-3D!
